500 Exclusive of VAT

The European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has been applicable since 25 May 2018. This regulation is central to this module. The starting points, the concepts, the different (privacy) roles in an organization, the most important rights and obligations are discussed.

After following this module, the participant can make an estimate of the measures to be taken from these laws and regulations on his own organization.

Teacher: Ans Duthler.

(Online) Start:

  • 20 april 2021;
  • 9 juli 2021.

This module has several objectives. In the first place, knowledge of European privacy law is acquired and supplemented if necessary. The ratio between acquiring and supplementing depends, among other things, on the prior knowledge that you may have already acquired. For example: if during your work you have often come into contact with privacy law and legislation, then you already have basic knowledge of this area of law. If you have not previously come into contact with privacy law, you should familiarize yourself with the core concepts by studying the material that relates to the field and is made accessible via the digital learning environment.

In the continuation of the module ‘overview of current privacy legislation’, it is assumed that you have the knowledge that is offered during this part.

In the second place – during the workshop – we look for the connections and the nuances of European privacy law. It is not the cases that are clear that are central, but the cases where the answers are not readily available.

  • From directive to regulation;
  • Principles;
  • Definitions; and
  • Core obligations.

Multidisciplinary knowledge is required to function as a Data Protection Officer (DPO). Knowledge in the field of legislation and regulations, organization, ICT, AO/IB and security.

In order to be able to properly perform his advisory and supervisory tasks, the DPO must have the aforementioned multidisciplinary knowledge. It is therefore impossible to function properly as a DPO without thorough knowledge of privacy legislation. With the acquired knowledge, the DPO is able to interpret the GDPR and related legislation and regulations and to perform his function properly.
